Homeschooling in New York City is an incredible experience. Like the city itself, our community is diverse, talented and exciting. With over 400 families, NYCHEA is the largest homeschooling group in the city. Our members hail from every borough and from every point on the continuum of homeschooling--some are just starting out with young children, some recently pulled older kids out of school, others have kids in high school or college and beyond. Belonging to NYCHEA will give you access to a vast array of options for meeting your goals and chasing your interests as a homeschooler.

A primary benefit of becoming a member is access to our three email discussion groups. These lists are NYCHEA's lifeline of connection to members. Every day, members post information about field trips, classes, and special opportunities for your family. In addition to postings about what there is to do, one of the email lists is for online conversations about anything remotely related to parenting and education (or any other topic you wish to discuss with like-minded parents). There is also a monthly newsletter that features stories about members and what they have been up to.

The long-term benefits of becoming a member of NYCHEA are numerous: finding friends for your children; learning about museums, parks, historic buildings and sites of interest you may otherwise never have heard of; being able to participate in classes and activities that pursue your child's interests and passions; benefiting from the wisdom of other parents who have already been through the stages that you are experiencing now...

NYCHEA has a council that meets several times throughout the year. (In fact, we encourage every parent to volunteer for the council for at least one two-year stint). We also have monthly member-only meetings meant to be wonderful social/educational opportunities for our membership. We have few expenses and the cost to join is low. NYCHEA is a non-profit organization.
