Have you put any thought into the importance of understanding the law (Black Letter law, meaning the origins of unwritten law, the maxims of law and the like; English common law as it became established in America) as opposed to the statutory "legal system," which seems to operate with impunity in this country?

Those who understand where their rights have originated and how to maintain them are less likely to become encumbered by the current "legal system" in all its tyrannical momentum.

I moved this here because it seemed a more appropriate place than Suggest a Topic. In answer to your question - it's not so much that people don't understand where the laws originally came from, but rather that the judicial system has taken over all power from the legislative, by blocking any conservative measure passed by the states and labeling it "unconstitutional". Until such time as we can get rid of the federal judges running the US as their own little dictatorship, there's not a whole lot we can do to fix things.
