|
|
Hi, my wife and I are not currently in a position to take on homeschooling full time - we are however very concerned with the material our children are being taught in public school.
We would like to find out if anyone knows of a supplimental curricula that can be used in conjunction with a public education.
In particular, we are looking for something light enough that it can be added to their normal workload, but teaches the important Christian principles and subjects not coverd in public school, and also addresses mis-information that is taught in public schools.
Can anyone point us to such a curricula?
-Thanks |

Hello, adrianw!!
I totally understand your concerns. I don't know what to tell you about the mis-information. By that, I am assuming you mean evolution. There is a lending library that has many tapes and materials by a company called Answers in Genesis (AIG). The one I use is www.creationism.org/library/.
It is run by Ellen Myer. She can be contacted at the address and telephone number below.

She is a delight to talk to on the phone. I just told her the ages of my children and their interests (like dinosaurs) and she suggested some tapes for us to check out. You are allowed to keep the tapes for two weeks and then you pay the return shipping. So far it hasn't cost me more than $5 to send anything back. You can check out up to three different items at a time. The tapes are very well done and they are fun to watch. They do have some tapes that talk about what is taught in schools versus what the Bible has to say.
I use Gospel Light to teach Bible to my children. It is what my church uses and they give me their old books. I just make my lessons plans out of that.
I hope this helps. I look forward to seeing if anyone else has any ideas.

Thanks, by 'misinformation', we are actually thinking of more than just evolution. We are including worldly teachings on sex and homosexuality, poor moral teaching/foundations, history that misrepresents our Christian heritage, etc - All subject covered well in Christian homeschooling curricula. We need somthing like 'homeschooling light'. Something similar to the 'hooked on phonics' curricula, but designed toward Christian values as a supplement to public school education with a focus on science, history, ethics, anthropology, etc from K-12. I don't know if such a thing exists, but wanted to post the question just in case |

Why not use any of the Bible subject areas from Bob Jones, Abeka, or Alpha Omega? All of these have curriculum that you could use as devotions or an actual additional subject area to dispute some of the worldly teaching your children are experiencing. _________________ Janet T.

| I will take a look at these and see how these modules would work. I appreciate the suggestion. |
