I have to start by saying that I currently do not homeschool my children. In very simple terms, I'm "not allowed to." I realize how ridiculous this, but I'm also sure many can understand the oddities in some family dynamics. After searching all different types of forums, this one seems to be the most accepting of all people.
I'm a single mom with two amazing kiddos. My little girl is 9 and my little man is 5. They're in 3rd and kindergarten public school.
The reason I'm here is because we "get lots of work done" (as per kid's words) after school, on the weekends, and during vacations.
Both of my children have special needs. Between them, they have Asperger's, Autism, asthma, severe sensory needs (SID/SPD), and some severe aggressive behaviors.
Our at home studies include; music- violin, piano. Language- focus on English grammar, articulation, beginning Latin. Math- real world math. Science- evolution, huge focus on our bodies, and anything else they'd like to know. Social studies- right now our focus is on different world cultures, religions, and beliefs (we're atheist, and they're being taught to respect a persons beliefs to an extent). I'm also very big on teaching them to listen to their bodies, and with their autism, sensory needs are extremely vital.
I look forward to "meeting" as many people here as I can! |
