Hi!
I have been homeschooling my daughter (now 7) since kindergarten. She has Type 1 Diabetes, so we felt we couldn't trust a disinterested party to take proper care of her. It has worked out so well!! She is so studious and loves to learn. She is only in 1st grade, but reads at a 7th grade level. I love to have her at home, and she and her 3 year old brother are much closer than they would be if she was at school all day. We tend toward unschooling, but are enrolled in a charter school that provides some funding and guidance. I am so happy with homeschooling.
Glad to be here.

Awesome!
I'm not sure what grade level I was reading in first grade, but by age 9 I could read college level. I loved reading and begged my mom to take me to the library almost every week. _________________ MINDsprinting * My Blog |

Same for me. Dad would read books like Chronicles of Narnia, The Hobbit, and Lord of the Rings to us in the evenings, so I grew up thinking that books were fun, and had a great desire to read more I read things like Robinson Crusoe, Swiss Family Robinson, the encyclopedia (I'd flip through it and find interesting articles), and of course reread all the books listed above. Learning to read early may not be absolutely essential - some children learn later and do just fine - but it certainly doesn't hurt anything to get a jump start on reading. The better you can read, the sooner you can teach yourself. _________________ The Farming Game - Software Edition for Mac and PC
