| We are 3 weeks into second semester. My daughter has gotten in with the wrong crowd and I need to remove her from school and home school her. She is a sophomore in high school. We are in Missouri. Many questions: 1. How do I remove her from school legally? 2. How quickly can I begin home schooling? 3. Are there local organizations in west county st. louis that can help me? 4. Are there computer classes she can attend rather than me teaching her? I've got many more questions. I thank you for any help you can provide. |

Before you withdraw your dd from school, be sure this is what you'll do for the rest of her school years, because it is probable that if she wants to go back, the school might not accept any credits she earned at home.
MO law doesn't require you to notify anyone or get permission to homeschool. You will want to notify the school, however, because if you just don't send your dd back, someone will think that she's truant, and you don't want that to happen. Many people recommend sending a letter by certified mail, signed receipt required, to the school so that you have proof that you notified someone and that someone at least received that notification. *I* usually recommend that parents also request their children's records; some schools will give them to the parents, some won't. You should at least have copies of everything that's in there, as well as a transcript for 9th grade and the first semester of 10th.
