Hi, my name's Kayla and I'm homeschooling my 9-year-old daughter, who has special medical needs that schools don't accommodate. In a school setting, she'd quickly be labeled learning disabled, hyperactive, and perhaps Asperger's Syndrome.
At home, she's learning well though it's a challenge to teach her -- who ever heard of SITTING DOWN, looking at what mom wants you to look at, and working quickly and quietly?! Many of our lessons are done with a pet lizard in the hand (or on the workbook!), bouncing on the mini-trampoline while mom quizes her orally, etc. An actual quote from yesterday evening: "If you get this math problem wrong, the lizard goes back in the tank!" (This cracked my husband up when he heard it!)
Ah well, the adventure of homeschooling! I'm so pleased to have found this wonderful website -- read some great articles here this morning (and they were short and to-the-point, ahhh...) -- and I'm looking forward to learning from the forums that deal with teaching different subjects! |
