|
|
| Does anyone know what happens at a truancy hearing? I started homeschooling my son this year and now there was a complaint filed and a hearing scheduled. Will it be enough to show up and explain that we are homeschooling. The school was notified but they told me there were no withdrawl forms to submit and I don't need to send anything in writing. I'm new to all of this and i'm not completely organized as far as cirriculum and documentation although I'm working on it. In Michigan I don't have to show cirriculum though....not sure what is going to happen but worried. I've just recently joined HSDLA and i'm waiting for application approval. Any advice or experiences with this? |

I'm sorry but I can't offer up any information on a truancy hearing. I have never had to deal with it, nor anyone I know. Seems how you are currently applying to become a member of HSLDA I would suggest that you call them and try to get your application rushed through. Also, visit the links below as they have information regarding home-school laws in Michigan.
HSLDA contact info.
Phone: (540) 338-5600 · Fax: (540) 338-2733 · E-mail: info@hslda.org

Hopefully someone else from this forum will be able to help you.
I wish you the best of luck. Take care.

Thank you for your response and the links. I have printed out and saved all the info on the laws. I believe everything I am doing with my son is within the law. HSLDA is rushing through my application I heard back from them right away. Hopefully something can be done. Thanks again |

You're most certainly welcome. Here is another website with information about homeschooling in Michigan. It has information on Home Educating Under Exemption (3)(a) as a Non-Public School AND Home Educating Under Exemption (3)(f) as a Home Education Program. It will tell you in simple to understand terms how the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) and Local and Intermediate School Districts handle each option.

Once again, best of luck and take care.
