Choose something you want to teach such as sewing, finances, cooking or auto upkeep.

Find Scripture that relates to the topic.
Research the subject.
Report, including what steps to be taken or knowledge needed to be skilled in that area.
Learn the skill through hands-on training and experience. Take your time here. A year is not too long for your son or daughter to practice something they will do for life.

For instance, in our Quilting class, my girls read an old book that included the history of quilting. They studied the chapter about Dorcas (Acts 9). We then looked through quilting books and designed original patterns. Next the began their own sampler or small quilt.

Choose a subject you might want to explore for yourself and then teach it to your students. If it is something you're afraid of or don't have the skills, don't worry. Tell your students that you will learn along with them.
There are so many resources to explore: workbook, DVD, internet, local craftsmen, friends, or relatives. I prefer as much hands on as is possible.

Some subjects might include different cultures and how they prepare food, sewing household and personal items, gardening, auto, electricity, plumbing, how to paint a room, stripping and staining furniture, flower arranging, helping someone to build a deck or put up a fence...

Most of us are not experts in each area. Just giving the chance to try something new will always be a benefit, 'cause sometime in life you may fall back on that information needing the small amount that was learned to build on.
