Does anyone know the process to take your child out to homeschool?
I have look but have not found any answers. I will be doing this soon and do not want to look or sound like I do not know what I am doing.
appreciate any advice.

Here is the law in a nutshell:
There is no homeschool law in Calif, nor are there any court cases which would make homeschooling officially recognized.
Children have to be enrolled in a public school or a private school, or tutored full time by a credentialed teacher.
Private schools are not regulated by the state, other than having to file an affidvait annually--no minimum number of students, no required number of school days, no teacher qualifications, no testing, no requirements for graduation...nada.
Private schools are supposed to keep the qualifications of their teachers on file, keep attendance records indicating when dc are *absent,* and offer the same subjects that public schools do. No one is ever allowed to see *any* of the records except for the affidavit (to verify that it has been filed).
Most homeschoolers file affidavits themselves. It is free and only takes a few minutes.
Many homeschoolers enroll in private schools that others have established; these may either be set up for only homeschooled students, or they may be actual private schools which also enroll homeschoolers. People generally call these "Independent Study Programs" (ISPs), but they are technically and legally just private schools.
Now, there are public school programs--charter schools and independent study programs--in which you can enroll your dc. Technically and legally, this is not homeschooling, as your dc are considered public school students and are bound by state law to do certain things. You should be able to find these by doing a Google or Dogpile search, but you should know that it is public school at home, not homeschooling.
So the short answer is this: If you're going to file an affidavit, do that first, then inform your dc's school that you will be enrolling them in a private school, which will be requesting thier records. Since there is technically no such thing as "homeschooling" in the state, this is the correct terminology. If you decide to go with a charter school, enroll your dc there and hope that its leaders request your dc's records (they should, but it has been my experience that they do not always do so).
