Hi, I am not really new to homeschool. I hs my daughter for half of her 2nd grade year and then placed her in public school from 3rd to 8th. Half way thru 8th grade she came to me and asked to be hs. I was actually relieved. She was having some problems in school when previosly she had always been an excellant student. Getting straight A's the whole year was not uncommon for her, so when her grades turned into D's and F's I knew something was wrong. Her attitude at home had changed also. She would not open up to me about what was wrong and she had started cutting to ease frustration in her life. Some of the friends she had at school were involved in that activity also. She finally came to me about a week before she asked to be hs and confessed about all she was doing and what was going wrong in her world. She told me it was out of control and she needed help. Well, to make a long story short she is today after 9 months later a totally different kid. She loves hs and really enjoys her time with me. She has been able to put the cutting behind her and is learning to deal with frustrations in a much healthier way. My only regret is that I wish I had never put her in public school, maybe she wouldn't have had all the problems.
I have also been married for 15 years to a great man and we are also foster parents as well as trying to adopt 2 little boys, who are brothers, from fostercare. I will then be hs both. They are 6 and 3 years old.
I am glad to find a online support group that is exclusivly for homeschooling parents. I also belong to a online support group for foster/adopt parents. _________________ Birth daughter, C, 14yo, 9th grade.
