Here's a new idea for your music curriculum: http://skypeviolinteacher.webs.com
Hi all. I've been browsing away on various homeschool forums and sites and as a music teacher am pretty horrified by some of the products out there for learning violin, piano etc. I mean, yes, a video or a computer game is much better than nothing, and in some cases the products can make learning music accessible to children who would otherwise never attempt any of this. But as a violinist who knows how damaging poor technique can be, please, please, please don't try them for your child unless you know what you're doing!!!
Here's an alternative. It might be slightly more expensive, but you'll thank yourself in the long run. An increasing number of teachers, including myself, are now offering lessons via Skype. If you're not familiar with Skype, it is basically a free programme letting you do live video chat with someone else, anywhere in the world. This means that, regardless of where you are, you and/or your children can have one-to-one tuition, possibly in a caravan at two o'clock in the morning while on a camping holiday (assuming you have a laptop and wifi signal). We acknowledge it's not quite as brilliant as in-person tuition, especially for young children, but it's a lot better than a video.
