....and a little unsure, concerned, and even desperate, too.
i browsed a bunch of homeschooling forums before registering here....what caught my eye was a few posts about teenagers and "drive", "ambition", "fill-in the word of choice"
i'm a staunch believer in the need of free public education in america, and i committed myself to that way back when my daughter entered kindergarten....in spite of my immediate dismay at it's "factory" like organization.
but that was a philosophical stance, and no amount of volunteering could change my gut feeling that its direction was wrong....my daughter was fortunate to have experienced the last full cycle of the "multi-age" class at her elementary school, taught by a pair of amazing and caring teachers...but since fourth grade (the beginning of "academics"), and in sprite of some very good teachers, "the system" has failed to capitalize on my daughter's eagerness to learn
that, of course, is not entirely true....she has also done her part in failing to capitalize on it...and that is why i'm feeling a little desperate, too.
i'll post about it (ad nauseum, i'm sure ), but that's why i'm here, in a nutshell. |

hello. Would like to hear more about your daughter and why you left public school. Seems we might share similar experience.
Hope you enjoy the forum. It has been very helpful to me. There is a hot discussion on evolution vs. creationism. Check it out. |
