Welcome!
Hang out here for awhile and read, read, read everything you can find so you can start getting some ideas about what you want for YOUR child.
See what your state requires http://www.hslda.org Many states do not even require you notify them until your child is 7 or 8 years old.
Don't feel like you have to do anything "formal" with a 5 year old. Read books, sing songs, play games, count, learn addition with concrete objects (Cheerios/m & ms), go on outings.
Studies have shown that building kids life experiences and vocabulary when they are younger is a far greater benefit to them for learning in the later years than "pushing" reading and math skills exclusively at 5 or 6 years old.
Best wishes! _________________ Jill

I think it would be good to go to your local library and check out some books about homeschooling.
Here are 3 that I like a lot --
The First Year of Homeschooling Your Child by Linda Dobson
Homeschooling the Early Years by Linda Dobson
Educating the Whole Hearted Child by Clay and Sally Clarkson
My favorite place to order curriculum is Rainbow Resource. You can go to their site and request to get a catalog in the mail. (You can also view their products online.) They have great prices. Here is the link for their site -

Hope this helps. _________________ Laura L. Barth
