Please share any info you have. I've got a teen interested in this. I have NO experience in any of this. I don't even like sports. LOL.

Requirements for academic scholarships and participation can vary widely by sport and division, whether NCAA, NAIA, or community college. Most schools recruit for athletic participation and scholarship, so your student would need to be "seen" by scouts or coaches. It is also sometimes possible to walk on then gain a scholarship, although this is less common.

What sport does your son/daughter play?
What kind of experience does your student have in the sport he/she is interested in?
Are there particular schools he/she is considering?
What division/league is he/she most likely to play in?

The answers to these questions can help narrow down the possibilities.

Whatever sport your son/daughter plays, the coach of the college team will want to see a video of your child playing the sport. For example, if your son/daughter plays basketball, the coach will likely want a video of your child performing drills, running timed sprints, and playing in games.

NCAA Division I schools can offer full scholarships, Division II schools will offer fewer scholarships in lesser amounts, and Division III schools can't offer athletic scholarships, but can offer other forms of financial aid (i.e. academic scholarships).

I would definitely start by just contacting coaches at schools and talking to them directly about the program to see if it would be a good fit for your child. Good Luck!!
