Just wondering if you have to register in the state you are living or if you can stay registered in the state that is your home of record? Would be so easy if we didn't have to switch every few years! Very Happy

I would guess that whichever state you're paying taxes to would be the one that applies. Does your official residence stay in one place or move with you?

I *think* we pay takes in the state of our home of record. We do move from state to state every few years with being in the military. Know of any specific laws that apply to military HSers where you stay registered in your home of record and follow that state laws instead of the one you're in? The more I think about it, I can't imagine how that would work!

Ok, my bad. I managed to find this quote from the DoD and judge advocates:

Quote:
Public education within the United States is a matter which our constitutional system leaves to the discretion of each State. Each State, therefore, makes its own laws pertaining to education. These laws are binding on all persons within the State's border, including the dependents of the Department of Defense (DoD) (including the Military Services). The Secretary of Defense does not have the legal authority to issue the kind of regulatory exemption from State education law. The DoD has a specific statutory authority to operate a school for DoD dependents who are assigned overseas.

Apparently it's your physical location that matters, or your official state of residence if you're overseas. Now I don't have to wonder about this one any more Smile

Overseas you fall under DoD schools which require nothing.
You go with where you live even overseas.
