Hello all I just wanted to introduce myself. I'm Ellise SAHM (now) married for 18 years, 2 boys (16). Both boys are entering 11th grade. We are fairly new to homeschooling been trying to do it since February 06, with MUCH resistance, on most days. My boys are not twins, one is adopted and goes to public school.

ANy hints, tips or advice anyone can pass my way would be greatly appreciated.
TIA,
Ellise

Hi, We used to live in SC.(Columbia and Greenville) We now live in MI. I have two boys as well (9 and 6 1/2). I am going to begin homeschooling them in the fall. Everyone here has been real nice as I've done my research. I'm sure you'll get lots of useful pointers. Alisa

Ellsie,

Starting your homeschooling experience with two 16 year old boys must certainly be a challenge. I think the biggest thing I faced with my children during those years is keeping their respect. I found that they needed to view me as a teacher more than a mom. Setting definite rules with both rewards and consequences which both my husband and I agreed to enforce was very important. What curriculum are you using?

Teaching teenagers is difficult, especially when they have already had the negative influences of public school endoctrinated into their thinking. Hopefully, you will be able to keep the lines of communication open with them. I would try to reward them with the extra curricular activities that they find rewarding for being disciplined in doing their other school subjects. They probably will be going through withdrawals by not being with their peers each day. Try to find other homeschooling families that also have teenage boys to make and develop new friendships. With all the energy a young boy has, I would also find a part time job for them to work at and incorporate as part of your schedule - work study.

Hope this helps you a little. God bless and guide you as you home school. There are alot of good resources on the internet to give you creative ideas.
