Potty training and learning styles

Postby Sandy » Wed Feb 21, 2007 3:24 pm

OK, this is a goofy question, but, here goes...

Did potty training give you any indication as to what kind of learner your child was? I'm working on my dd, and it's funny to see what absolutely didn't work, and what does. It's all her idea...don't push her!!! I'm wondering if she'll be this way throughout her school career :D .

That's how it was with my son. He waited until he was 4 years old to train and we didn't push him at all. One day, he woke up, put underwear on and used the toilet from then on. He had accidents for a couple of days but withint 3 days he was potty trained.

He approaches just about everything in his life that way - it better be my idea or no go. Now, obviously, there are times when we have to tell him what's going to happen and he'll go along with it but he's not generally happy about it. This applies to schoolwork as well. Some days he's skipping through the house and happily agrees when I say it's school time and other days I get attitude but we do it anyway.

My 3 year old is headed in much the same direction. He'll do in his own times. We've made attempts but they've all failed. I envision his potty training to be much the same. He's very strong willed as well - things have to be his idea or it's a no go.
To be idle is a short road to death and to be diligent is a way of life; foolish people are idle, wise people are diligent.

My oldest ran around naked outside all day, and then by the time summer was over he was potty rained about 2.9 years. My second wasn't going to be trained unless it was his idea. This tells you alot about there personalities but i'm not sure about their learning styles. My oldest is messy but creative, and my second son is lethodical and dominering!
