I live in a state that does not require record keeping of any sort. We start 9th grade this next school year, and I will be keeping a transcript for colleges, but will they want a portfolio too? If so, what kind of work goes into the portfolio? Reports, science experiments and the like?
Thanks,
Sheila

A portfolio should include (but not be limited to) the following:
Course descriptions
Grades
Transcript
List of all books read
Films seen
Field trips
Travel reports
Extracurricular activities
Sports
Co-op or college classes taken
Volunteer work
Recommendations
Artwork
Papers, articles or poems written
Videos
Photos
Hope this helps!

Actually, it depends on the school.
I have graduated two of my children from high school AND college. I did not need to produce the materials the previous respondent listed.
I used "Transcript Pro" to produce a professional looking transcript. That is all Florida State University required. On the transcript there is a place for activities, rewards, etc. Not only was my son accepted but he was offered an academic scholarship that essentially paid him to go to college.
I would suggest you look into the specific colleges your child is interested in. Ask what their entrance requirements are for home-schoolers. I think the previous list is probably overkill. Just my two cents.
