Teaching the Guitar

Postby insectlover » Fri Feb 12, 2016 6:32 pm

Has anybody got any good pointers for helping an 11 year old learn guitar? I have played for many years but am struggling to assist him in wrapping his fingers around to make the basic CAGED chords.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated. We're currently focusing more on single-note melodies and scales but would love him to move onto chords. Thanks.

I also play guitar but I'm also having difficulties in teaching my daughter who wants to learn too.

Hope it helps!

Here is a more updated informational website that lists all of the online guitar lesson websites like JamPlay, Guitar Tricks, and Fender Play along with their pros, cons, costs, and pretty much everything else. https://www.guitarrepairbench.com/best-online-guitar-lessons/

Hope this helps you find something for your son. :)

Thanks for the guitar lesson resources everyone.

For me this was the most helpful guide, they were the clearest in helping me understand the difference between free and paid lessons: https://equipboard.com/posts/online-guitar-lessons

For my son I can see the merit of going the paid route with Guitar Tricks or Jam Play. Free lessons on YouTube sound appealing, but for a young person (and, who am I kidding, for a parent as well) there is far too much potential for distraction!
