What's your favorite book about American History for primary grades?

Almost anything by Jean Fritz! She's written lots and all are accurate and easy for kids to follow. Usually they have humor in them too!

Biographies by the D'Aulaires: Abraham Lincoln, Helen Keller and others

I highly recommend "Southern by the Grace of God" if you're studying the Civil War. Regular textbooks generally ignore the South, and focus entirely on the Northern point of view - perhaps not surprising, given that the winner usually ends up writing the history.
