I will be taking my boys camping at a homeschool camp in a few weeks. I am helping them plan out packing and food, is there anything else I can add to this little unit study we are doing? Any good books, or activities anyone has used? Thank in advance for the help. :)

You could try out various ways of making fire without matches / lighters. That's the first thing I'd want to do if I were going camping.

Map and compass work if they are going hiking, also hiking safety.

I have never brought my kids to a homeschool camp before. It must be really exciting as the kids could have a chance to try out so many things they otherwise would not have a chance to try at home. Is is organized by your neighboring fellow homeschool parents or something that you have to sign up through an association? Would be keen to know more....:)

You can teach them some boys scouts stuff like how to cook eggs using just a tin can, how to build a fire with stones or sticks and other safety techniques while out there in camp. It would be great as well if you could teach them interesting games that they may want to play with the other kids.

You can play Eagle Eye game. It's a hide-and-seek variation that's a fun way to improve your kids' observational skills in the wild. You can see an article on the game at:

Here's another fun camping/outdoor education activity. It gives kids some experience in tracking, just like the Scouts in the old west:

There many ways to help and give knowledge to others, in out door you can teach them first aid. I have a website that can help you like at studygeek.org.
