Are you going to homeschool? Then it doesn't matter one way or the other; personally, I would continue helping the child learn as much as possible, because "grade level" is irrelevant.

If your dc is going to school, be careful, because if your dc has more skills than the other children, it can be a problem.

Hello, my first post here.

I have a 4 year old who will start Kindergarten next year. The child is already fairly proficient at Kindergarten level work and in some content areas we have moved past Kindergarten and into 1st grade subject matter.

We have about 8 more months before the child starts Kindergarten, should I introduce 1st grade level work now or should I just repeat the Kindergarten level work over and over again for the next 8 months even though they know it now?

I've actually enjoyed using Starfall for my preschool kids too as the levels matches them much better. I would definitely work on building the letters and letter sound, then two letter words then CVC words to keep them engaged and thinking. Use like different types of games etc., when it comes to learning all the words and helping them remember.

Do you know Letterland? They call it "child friendly phonics" and it's exactly that! It's the best book to learn letters and phonics in my opinion, I used it as a child and use it with my children now. I think that what you're doing is great and it's true that there will come a point where it's hard to learn more words so knowing how to read and sound out letters is more important than recognizing words right now, but it's great that your child is so eager to learn! Sounds like you're doing a great job.

I recently started doing preschool with my children. Emma-4, Lucy-2, Erik (my nephew)-4. I bought a workbook from Walmart to give me ideas, and we do 3 worksheets every day, plus coloring, cutting, and glueing (sp?), and reading a book. Is that too much for their age? What should I be teaching them? Should I focus on kindergarten readiness stuff, or just whatever seems fun? Also, my nephew, who we have custody of, is not nearly as advanced as Emma, and I'm not sure what to do for them. They all really like school, but everyone is getting frustrated, including me. Am I expecting too much from them? Should I be more flexible and fluid? Also, does anyone have ideas for individual things they can do?
