Update on California Homeschooling
Thanks to all of you who signed the petition to vacate the original ruling against
homeschooling in California. The petition page has now been closed, after collecting
250,000 signatures.
Since then, the California Court of Appeal for the 2nd Appellate District has
decided to rehear the court case that opened this can of worms. The court is
in fact taking unto itself the authority to decide the fate of California
homeschoolers -- rather than simply vacating the decision and upholding the
existing laws, under which homeschoolers have operated for decades. In an
ominous move, the court has asked various parties attached to the public
education establishment for their opinions on homeschooling. This includes
the California Teachers Association, the State Board of Education, and the
Los Angeles teacher's union, among others.
Of those who responded to
our latest poll on this subject,
over half find it fishy that the court began challenging Californians' right to
homeschool just one month after a coalition of Christian and pro-family
organizations called for a
mass "exodus" from
California schools, due to troubling new curriculum requirements.
