Quiz Bowl is a great stress reliever and a great way to make use of your extensive knowledge of topics that interest you. It also looks great on your college resume and can eventually lead to scholarships. Quiz Bowl encompasses middle school, high school varsity, and college competitions. The Central Texas Private School Quiz Bowl organization currently has only a varsity team. As participation increases and sponsors and members become trained to provide leadership, other levels can be added.

Team members typically have developed knowledge well above average in specific areas of interest such as math, science, history, literature, politics, religion, mythology, music, pop culture, sports and more. Typically, each member specializes in three or more areas while her/his team members' specialties encompass other areas. Most members will be have excellent general knowledge of academics and topics considered common knowledge. Students who enjoy trivia generally do well in this activity. This activity is appropriate for serious students who are excellent team players, self-controlled and able to laugh at themselves. Quiz Bowl has been described as "Jeopardy on steroids" and is considered to be fun and exciting. Teams of four compete in rounds against several other teams and are ranked at the end of each tournament. The top 15% of teams at any single tournament are invited to nationals. Even in a state as large as Texas, it is entirely possible for a new competitor to go to nationals. Membership is selected by a low-key, fun audition process.

Our understanding of the national rules leads us to believe that students who graduate early from high school can still compete in this group until the last year during which they will be under 19 for the entire year. If you feel this applies to you, let us know and we will verify this.
