SCHEA was formed in 1987 to support home educators in South Carolina and to perform a lead role to create legal protection for home education in South Carolina. SCHEA, working with many other concerned individuals and organizations, was instrumental in convincing the state legislature to create the first South Carolina law requiring recognition of home schooling in 1988.
Today, committed volunteer home school families from across the state continue to work through SCHEA to create opportunities and support to the zhome school community and promote an accurate and favorable image of home education in South Carolina.

All homeschooled children in SC (under Option 3) need to be a member of a homeschool accountability association. 3 Brothers Education will make sure you are covered and provide the support you need so you can focus on your children's education. Christian Homeschoolers’ Association of South Carolina is a third option homeschool accountability group under SC Code of Law section 59-65-47 with members from all counties in South Carolina. Because the law does not require standardized testing, nor establish a set length for the school day, members are free to choose what is best for their family. We are here to provide the legal accountability as well as any support needed; but we will not intrude or dictate the individual details that make each family’s homeschool program right for their children. Our membership year is from June 1 to May 31 each year. The application fee is $30. Renewal is $25 if completed by July 31 and $30 from August 1 through the rest of the year. We are a third option accountability group. We have been helping home school families since the law was first enacted in 1997. We are one of the oldest and most experienced groups in the state.
