I am currently homeschooling a kindergartener and a preschool. Everything has been going well until the last week. My daughter (kdg) has all of a sudden stopped doing any math work. We are working on addition and subtraction from 0-10. I downloaded some ebooks on it that have great activities. She just sits. One night for four hours. She just makes excuse after excuse. I am tired. I need to go to the bathroom.

Every other subject is fine. She has been exceptional up to this point. My husband and I are at our wits end. Has any other homeschool parents gone through this and cna show me a light and the end of the tunnel. I really need it right now!

Thanks in advance

There's no way to tell why she suddenly doesn't want to do math, but there are a number of things you could try to make math more fun:

- Fun math software, such as Barnum Quartermile.
- Math manipulatives such as Cuisenaire rods
- Assorted math games and activities involving basic math. For instance, take the number cards from a deck of cards, lay them face up, and see who can make the most pairs adding up to 10 (or any other number).

I have a set of rods that I purchased off the internet. Does anyone some good activities using them to teach addition and subtraction?

Miquon Math uses them a lot, and if you go to www.Timberdoodle.com they have ABC books and other things that uses the rods. http://www.dupagechildrensmuseum.org/aunty/ this is a great website that teaches math problems in a fun prblem solving way. Maybe you sould back off of math for a while, and let her tell you when she is ready. Maybe she has just reached Max capacity for now. She'll let you know when she wants to move on. If you push it, she'll hate it, and we want our children to enjoy learning right? Laughing
