Homeschoolers and Joining the Military

Postby jtaylor » Wed Jan 28, 2009 6:06 pm

My son would like to join the Air Force. Is there any way that he can do it as a homeschooler? He has taken 12 hours of college credit so far but would like to go ahead and join.

My bro made it into the Coast Guard Academy as a homeschooler, and the Coast Guard Academy has more stringent entrance requirements (in terms of mental / physical ability) than almost anywhere. Here are some pages that give info on what the Air Force Academy is looking for from homeschoolers, and what the climate is like for homeschoolers in the military in general.

Hi Janet,
All the branches of the military accept homeschoolers, so you don't need to worry about that. You will need to provide a transcript or other homeschool records. But YES, homeschoolers are invited - they even advertise in homeschool magazines!
