| I have some questions about homeschooling. Me and my husband are planning on enrolling my step son (3rd grade) in an online school next year, but we are ready to pull him out of this public school now. Would it be possible to home-school for the rest of the school year? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

You can withdraw a child from school any time you want.
Most people recommend witdrawing a child by putting it in writing. Something simple, such as "We are withdrawing our child, Orkie A. Burbaster, d.o.b. 07-19-2004, effective immediately." It's usually also recommended that you mail your letter certified, with a signed receipt, so you have proof that you did withdraw your dc and that he isn't just truant.
I usually recommend that parents also request their dc's cumulative recordss, but that's your choice.

Michigan is very relaxed when it comes to homeschooling. Definitely familiarize yourself with the laws, but you shouldn't have much trouble. The online school will probably even do a transfer request of his records, but you should get a copy in case you switch schools at a later time. You may actually have more of a hassle with the online school depending on how they run things, meaning they may only do admissions during certain times of the year.
