Hell, My name is Vanessa, and I found this web site by total accident. Prob. a good thing. My son is a special needs child who is 15 years old and in the 9th grade this year. We live out of district and his school lost their funding for out of district students. The district we live in is not appropriate for Michael. He is a follower. We are home schooling this year. So far what I have been told is that Montana is a renegade state. You are on your own. Superintendent of schools said that.
I am not sure exactly what to say or not to say(to much info). My hopes are to help Michael grow this year and to Succeed.

Montana isn't very restrictive. You need to annually notify the county superintendent, maintain attendance (and immunization) records (weekly summary of hours put in should be sufficient) and fulfill an aggregate of 720 hours per year for grades 1-3 or 1080 hours per year for grades 4-12. You also need to provide an organized course of study, but since the parent is the sole decider of curriculum, time, place, and method of instruction, evaluation of progress, etc., that effectively doesn't really make much difference as long as you're trying.

No, the only complicated part is figuring out which curriculum to use. Is it a packaged, grade-level curriculum? More of a subject-based approach combining textbooks from several different curriculums? Or do you put together your own course of study using materials from the library?
