I read about that too. Rather mean, but then again the kid was extremely disruptive and shouldn't have been in public school in the first place. The mom didn't have special ed help from the state, so I guess she was hoping to get some.

Lots of homeschoolers with special ed kids.

I feel sorry for the child, but I feel sorry for the other children, too. When my DD was at a lovely small Christian school for 1st grade, there was a similar incident. One of her classmates repeatedly threatened to kill the other children. Once he tried to poke out another child's eyes with pencils. Then he spread his feces all over the bathroom walls because he was angry at an assignment. He was constantly disrupting the class and the teacher was unable to properly teach the rest of the children. Many days she didn't get any teaching done at all! Therefore, at the Christmas break the child was expelled. It was a very difficult decision for the school, but I was relieved. I know it's hard to believe a first grader could be expelled, but his behavior was costing an entire year of education for the other children. As it turned out, the child had already been expelled from public school the year before.

I sure don't know the answer for problem children like this. But I don't believe the answer is to interfere with the learning experience of 20 other children. It seems like the teacher in the above referenced article could have been a little more discrete about getting the child removed from her class. It should have been a decision between her, the principal, the student's parents, and perhaps even the other children's parents.
