|
|
I Live in Ohio and my fiance is a graduate of Jefferson Township High School in Dayton so we're very dedicated in following their games. I am now interested in Home Schoolers that want to play sports because their team just made A Big Win but they were notified Today that the win didn't count and replaced their team with the higher ranked one because one of the children was home schooled. http://www.daytondailynews.com/s/content/oh/story/sports/high-schools/2008/02/27/ddn022808jeffersonweb.html
So I've signed up to this Forum because it meant so much to them and I don't want any other sportsteam to experience such heartbreak. They live in a pretty impoverished area and the win was against a team ranked much better than them. Earlier this year they lost a young student - he was hit and killed, which intensified their yearning to be the best they could this year.
Thanks Homeschoolers. I am now making myself aware of Your World.

I don't think Ohio allows homeschoolers to participate in public school sports, even if the school wants them to. Bills to fix this have been introduced, but nothing has really been accomplished so far.
My advice is to contact your state group (in this case, Christian Home Educators of Ohio) and see if they can use some lobbying help.

I don't even understand the purpose of this law. It is just hearbreaking to exclude kids, or disqualify them...People in Illinois, you need to start writing letters!! _________________ http://mrweeandboo.com |

| We are considering homeschooling our 11 year old daughter but she plays basketball and soccer but in our area the school does not allow students that are homeschooled to play sports for the school. In some area of the state it is allowed but in many school districts you are required to attend school for 1 to 4 classes to be allowed to play sports for the school. There are options to play for homeschooling leagues but in my opinion she should be allowed to play if we want her too. |
