|
|
| Hi. I am a marine corps spouse on recruting duty and I am currently entertaing the option of homeschooling my six year old. The Christian school she attends now is enforcing very cruel and strict punishments upon my daughter, so I am looking to find a Christain based, yet low cost program to enroll her in. So, does anyone have any suggestions for the SW Michigan area, or any program a military member has had success with. Thank you. |

hmmm... normally I would suggest Abeka for a full program, but remembering
my years on a military budget, I would think that it would be better to
piece together the curriculum from different sources. Not sure where
would be best to start for that age though.. (we started HS in 3rd grade)
I will look around a bit and see what I can find though.

| My daughter has been using the Abeka program and we have really enjoyed it; however, if you could figure out a way for me to keep the cost down I would really appreciate it. What a fantastic site. |

| There is a site where, if you are in need, you can go and ask for curriculum and they will send it to you free with the understanding that either you give it to someone else in need or send it back to them, but don't resell it (there is no guarantee you will get the materials but it never hurts to ask). If you want their address PM me, I don't have it on hand but can look it up. I use Abeka and piece mine together from internet sources. It usually costs me around 50.00 a year, per child, for all my books including the teachers books. I do however start getting books for next year now so I can hunt for the deals. For example, I got all of the test books and keys for my sons English for the next three years $3.00 which included shipping. |

We use Sonlight and absolutely love it. You can do some of your own customizing from what they have available. They ship to APO/FPO and the cost is the same as it would be to the US. We are in Kuwait and our box arrived in less than a week. It probably isn't the cheapest option out there, but we sure do love it.

| Hey, I am a military spouse/homeschooling mom. My husband is about to be deployed to Afghanistan. Our children are 3 & 5, not sure what age yours are, but if you are wanting to keep cost down, like us, on a military budget, check out this book from your local library. "Homeschool Your Child For Free" by Laura Maery Gold & Joan M. Zielinski. It is FILLED w/ great resources. We were going to either use My Father's World Kindergarten curriculum or Camrose Academy Kindergarten. We just finished w/ the Abeka K4 curriculum & were pretty bored towards the end of the year w/ all the repetition. However, Camrose is 4x higher in cost than Abeka was; needless to say, we are reading the book mentioned above & are willing to give it a try. Just thought you might be interested. |
