Depends what you mean by math programs. For basic elementary math drill, for instance, Barnum Quartermile is pretty good, and there's an old DOS game called Number Munchers that you can download for free now and run under a DOS simulator.

What I mean by math programs is one like "SOS" (Switched on Schoolhouse) that is a curriculum. Not just a practice site or game. A full math curriculum on a CD-ROM instead of having text and work books.
(SOS is by Alpha Omega- we have the AO Lifepac Math and aren't too impressed with it and SOS is basically just Lifepac on the computer) |

There are web sites that offer free worksheets / tests for elementary math, you could try looking into that. See the other threads in the Math area. Elementary math doesn't really involve that many concepts, it's mostly just lots of drill to build memory and speed.
When you get to Algebra, of course, computers are not well-suited to learning that level of math, since typing formulas and symbols on a computer is difficult. I'd recommend doing late elementary math through Algebra II at least with textbooks (I used Saxon).

There is an excellent online math practice program offered by Lymboo at www.lymboo.com.
The curriculum is comprehensive, and the structure is designed to promote long-term retention. The assignments are rich in basic concepts, word problems, and critical thinking exercises. Every topic is broken in to easy to grasp concepts so that children can become independent learners. The website is very easy to use.
Advantages over Kumon:
1. Online - it's convenient. No grading by parents. All performance reports are available instantly online.
2. Free diagnostic tests - determines where the students begins the program

4. Periodic spiral review assignments - to reinforce and retain what was learned earlier. Very important!

There's also k5learning.com which has two math programs - a curricula-based program and a math drill program.
Dreambox is an early elementary program
Mathmammoth has some free math worksheets |
