Here are some natural remedies for ADHD; you won't have to worry about side-effects, so they are worth trying. Here's a link to more information from Dr. Mercola:
http://www.mercola.com/2004/sep/18/adhd_nature.htm
It's a good website to research about ADHD. I learned a lot there. |

| I'm always stumped when people talk about natural remedies with no side effects. How is it possible a substance that can do you any good change is so natural that there is no possibility of side effects? That seems illogical to me. |

Hi StellarStory,
Did you take the time to go to the links I put on the last 2 posts? Fish oil is considered a food(that was link is in the first post), and walking outside is the other natural remedy, in the last post.
Please read these articles. They not be conventional wisdom, but then, maybe that's what is needed. I was hoping you and others would take the time to research this resource that I found.
I hope this helps |

I'm not really angry, just disappointed that people don't want to explore the options. I guess I just wanted to get your attention with the ! .
I'll be more careful with that. I don't think the emoticons are as good as they used to be.
Thanks for being honest. |

| I understand. I don't have ADD kids. So I'm just discussing things here. It's always good to learn something new. |

| I just stumbled upon those articles and thought they were good sources of information. My sister is 30 something and she said she just got on Adderall. I don't know how to tell her that it is a bad thing. |

I know what you mean. I am so against drugs for these sorts of things. I'm so sorry your sister has been convinced to go on that.

Some natural remedies can be equally dangerous, if you take the wrong amount. Fish oil, however, is not going to hurt you. _________________ The Farming Game - Software Edition for PC, Mac, Linux

Well yes. Let's not assume that people are totally moronic I think you have to drink like 20+ quarts of water to OD on that, it flushes out all your enzymes so your body can't function. _________________ The Farming Game - Software Edition for PC, Mac, Linux

It happened last year when a lady was trying to win a Wii at a radio station. I'm not just assuming people are moronic.
It happens more often with people feeding babies too much water. |

Thanks, StellarStory.
I'm sorry that I didn't think before I wrote that last post. I also like having discussions. I forgot most of you were just doing that. I reread everybody's posts about ADHD. It was very encouraging to me.
I think I will tell my sister about the research I read, if she brings it up, again, about being on medication.I think she should show it to her doctor. She tried to tell my brother to get Adderall, but he told her he didn't want to take it, even if he does have the symptoms. It's funny that I have the symptoms if I'm really tired or not eating well. That just supports the findings to try to eat better and get out in nature, stay away from stress, get some supplements to their diets, etc. |

I so agree with you! You see whole extended families on drugs they really, for the most part, don't need these days.
It's like any other drug user. Once they are on it, they want to hang out with others on it because it, "helps them so much." The help is often perceived but not absolute reality. I think it's so sad.
We are becoming a nation of drug users. The drugs we are often using have effects on us that we are not even aware of.
Who benefits from this?
The drug companies, the pharmacies and maybe the doctors a little.
Unfortunately, the patient is not always helped and is in fact, often harmed by the drugs.
This is a hot button issue for me because my Mom has been on just about every "mental and social disorder drug" there is. I truly hate what the drugs (which happens to be her weapon of choice to kill herself with) has done to her.
While depression may be a chemical problem and it is believed that up to two thirds of patients can see improvement through drugs withing six months, some patients are not so easy to "fix" via a gold drug.
In any case, I'd much rather behavioral therapy be the "fix" than a drug.
People who use "natural" remedies scare me because I do believe that any substance that can have a positive effect will have side effects of some sort. Being "natural" doesn't eliminate that.
Often not much research has been done on the substance itself. It is often not regulated in anyway. So when an individual starts taking something like St. John's Wort without painstaking research into what a proper dose might be, that scares me.
It's worth noting that any substance, even water, can be O.D.-ed on. While most are smarter than that, it does happen.
I think it's much more common with "natural" remedies than we think. |

The only thing I can add to all that is, educate yourself. Don't think that just because some "natural" remedies are dangerous that you just have to suffer or take whatever is available. Here's the website of my group of doctors:
www.homefirst.com
I am going to get the book about unlocking nature's pharmacy.
There are lots of helpful links on there, too. |
