My 13 year old son has JRA and juvenile scleroderma. He was sick with one thing or the other during the summer. When school started, he was fine until the last week of September when he contracted a virus or something. It has been 5 weeks and he is getting better. Anyway, he is taking 4 classes at co-op of which he has missed the last 5 weeks. His teachers have been understanding. It is going to take some time to make up all that work.
I am a little anxious about his need to learn the missed work, but I would really feel nuts (be nuts) if he were in regular school. He feels overwhelmed, but will be able to make up the work without too much anxiety (I hope.). That's one of the benefits of homeschooling. It allows freedom in the schedule. Just keep it in balance. And when some curricula doesn't work for various reasons, it can be changed to suit the situation. I can delay teaching Math, Science, Literature for a few weeks in order to have time to make up "outside" work. It is also encouraging to have a community of home schoolers who pray for one another. |
