Bob is the founder of SAI: the Summer Algebra Institute for KIDS, which has taught hands-on algebra to some 1,900 elementary students (grades 3-8) since 1995. SAI has held classes in the Twin Cities, Rochester (MN), Grand Marais (MN), and Michigan, and SAI is also expanding to serve special groups during the academic year in the metro Twin Cities area. Bob also teaches math at Mounds View High School in suburban St. Paul (MN) and has also taught college math education courses to future elementary teachers at Augsburg College in Minneapolis. In 1993, he was the director of a special pilot project in which algebra, music, and manipulatives were used to teach math to regular first grade students in a traditional school setting. Bob also is a frequent speaker at math and homeschool conferences, specializing in presentations on using math games and higher math to teach and reinforce elementary mathematics curricula. He and his wife homeschooled their sons through the junior high years and remain involved with many homeschooling families and organizations.
