Please teach your children safety rules, even if they are too young to operate a lawn mower or weed wacker. It is just too easy to lose a limb.
A 18 year old friend of my son's, lost part of his hand because he thought the blade has stopped spinning when he needed to check for a problem.
He has been mowing lawns for several years and still make a serious mistake.

Same goes for garbage disposals, vacuum cleaners, or anything else that spins, grinds, chops, etc. fast enough to hurt you. Don't stick your hand in until you're sure the device is turned off!

Also, don't stand in front of the lawn mower, it can kick up rocks and other debris and fire them at you at high speeds. This is more a caution for the innocent bystander than the person pushing the lawnmower..

One of my son's friends was standing in the yard while his dad was mowing, a wire was caught in the blades and shot out and into the boy's calf. Thankfully he is ok but that was scary, what if it had been higher? The best bet is to stay far away from a cutting lawn mower.
