We have developed a Web site for US History, called u-s-history.com. The center of each page is 100% history and written seriously. There are some Google ads to help cover the bills, although the site doesn't break even. I have no idea if this is too commercial for this group, but it's free and appears to be well received by those who have visited it. At least according to the feedback we've received.

Hmm, the site has quite a few Google ads and lags a bit while loading as a result. I'd also debate some of your content, like for instance the crossing the ice bridge to North America theory (see the books by Thor Heyerdahl for a more realistic view of things). However, much of the site looks like it could be useful.
It would be nice if the Google ads could go, though. And splitting the long pages into several shorter pieces might be good.
