World music curricula

The arts are sometimes overlooked, but they're a valuable part of culture and history.

World music curricula

Postby Celia » Wed Jul 16, 2014 9:05 am

I'm a SAHM with 3 boys, and haven't found many resources for teaching non-classical music. I'm wondering if that's because no one has written them, or if there's just no or minimal interest.

I used to be a college professor in ethnomusicology and am considering:

1. creating a website with extensive music resources and links
2. writing short fun ebooks for primary students on various genres, like blues, jazz, zydeco, powwow, South African Choral music, etc. - all with age appropriate music of course, maps, stories, cultural history, etc. All in about 32 pages (something similar in scope and price to Mike Venezia's composer series)
3. creating iTunes song lists for each book (maybe 4 per book)

Would this be a useful resource? Is there any interest - any market - in music for homeschoolers other than classical?

Thanks so much! I appreciate your thoughts and comments!
