Solution to a Math-Educational Problem

Postby Ilansamson » Thu Mar 27, 2014 4:14 pm

Students routinely perform calculations on calculators without using their heads. However, for a variety of reasons calculators are indispensable.

This conflict is now resolved by a new tool that affords the benefits of calculators but avoids their damage: A new calculator (also scientific) that displays the result only after the user also entered a mental estimate, reasonable for the respective calculation.

A good example of thinking outside the box, but still vulnerable to exploitation if the problem asks you to calculate a problem to x decimal places and you can fudge it to an approximation in less time. Calculators should only be used for trig and log values, up through late Calculus.
