Withdrawing mid-year in CA

Postby alyshabishabobisha » Wed Jan 29, 2014 4:36 pm

I'm pulling my child out at the end of this week. I've filed the affidavit for homeschooling, however it said to do it in October. Does anyone know what will happen since I'm doing it mid year? Will they throw a fit about it?

You can file the affidavit at any time of the year. You'll just file it again in October.

You shouldn't have any problems, although occasionally school personnel try to give people grief. You are within your legal rights to do what you're doing.

It's no big deal. You will notify your child's current school, in writing, that you are withdrawing her to enroll her in a private school, and that the private school will request her records. Mail your letter certified, with a return receipt; that way you'll have proof that you did tell the school of your plans. It is not required by law to do that, but when you withdraw children from a public school, you really need to let them know the children won't be coming back and that they are enrolled somewhere else. :-)
