"VIDEO-TEXT" INTERACTIVE ALGEBRA DVD Set
-For Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, & Algebra 2 (Modules A,B,C,D,E,F)
-
**Recommended by Jay Wile(Apologia), Cathy Duffy, and The Old Schoolhouse magazine. Charlotte Mason compatible.
-
-- The DVD-based lessons of Videotext Algebra are a complete course
covering Pre-algebra, Algebra 1 and Algebra 2, with 176 instructor led
lessons. 360 pages of course notes allow students to review the
development of a concept as it follows the lesson, repeating exactly
what was shown on the DVD, while the 590 pages of student work text
provides a review, additional examples, and concise exercises to
complete. There are solution manuals which include detailed, step-by-
step solutions to every problem as well as progress quizzes and tests
which provide an opportunity for students to demonstrate their
understanding of each lesson and unit. Two versions of the quizzes,
tests, cumulative reviews, and final examinations allow for retesting or
review to ensure mastery.
-
With each Module of the course, you receive the Dvd instructor taught
lessons, course notes, work texts, solutions manuals, quizzes, progress
tests, & instructor's guides with detailed solutions to all quiz and
test problems, and a zippered case to hold the Dvds.
-
The reason that we named our program "Algebra: A Complete Course," is
that we believe the best way to learn Algebra is to start at the
beginning and end at the end! In this program you will find a complete
study of the essential material covered in a traditional Algebra 1 and
Algebra 2 course.
-
However, we need to continue a little further with this answer because
Algebra 1 and Algebra 2 are terms that refer mostly to the traditional
way that Algebra has been taught. Traditional Algebra 1 classes attempt
to cover most of Algebra in the first year, but the methods that are
used, and the speed with which the material is covered, hinders student
understanding of the material. Instead, the student is just exposed to
memorizing rules, formulas, tricks, and shortcuts. By the time they get
to what is called an Algebra 2 course, (sometimes after they take a
Geometry course), they have forgotten almost all of the Algebra that
they memorized. So, that Algebra 2 course (which is by definition, a
rehash of whatever has been called “Algebra 1”), must repeat practically
all of the Algebra 1 course. In fact, it usually repeats a lot of the
Pre-Algebra material as well. This is usually referred to as the "spiral
method" of learning, and it is not very effective in helping students to
excel, especially at this level of mathematics.
-
We think that this huge overlap is generally unproductive, and largely
unnecessary if the concepts are taught analytically. Therefore we call
our program "Algebra: A Complete Course," because we employ a mastery-
learning approach, sometimes moving at a slower pace, but without the
overlap. As a result, students often complete the course even more
quickly.
-
When a student completes Algebra: A Complete Course, the student can
claim credits for all of the following: Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, AND
Algebra II

TAPESTRY OF GRACE
-
Tapestry of Grace is a unit study curriculum that covers most of the major subject areas for all your students in grades K through 12. It covers the same general topics for all students simultaneously, but instruction and activities are divided into four levels of learning.
-
The divisions are:
*Lower Grammar (Grades K-3)
*Upper Grammar (Grades 3-6)
*Dialectic (Grades 6-9)
*Rhetoric (Grades 9-12)

There is a purposeful overlap here to address the reality that students at the same ages rarely progress at the same rate. This curriculum lasts for the full 12 years of your students' learning of history. Once they have gone through the first 4 years, they go back through again, but this time at the next level. Once they are through at that level, they go through again at the next level and so on. You will cycle through 4 times if you begin TOG in kindergarten. You can start TOG at any grade though.
-
Subject areas covered include history, writing, literature, fine arts, geography, church history, including missions, and Bible. TOG uses non-fiction as well as fiction books. It includes multi-sensory learning options to address different learning styles and interests, ranging from reading, writing, comprehension/discussions questions, and simple art projects, to full costumed reenactments. Detailed lesson plans and discussion outlines enable parents to teach with confidence.
