You may find this thread useful on the topic of famous homeschoolers.

Homeschool law is left up to the individual states, so homeschooling became legal at different dates depending on which state you're talking about. You may be able to find info on the history of homeschooling in Illinois at one or more of the IL groups pages:

The homeschool Legal Defense website may have some info that would help. I'm not sure of the link, but you could try a search. If you can't find it, let me know and I think my husband might have it on his computer.
