What curriculum to use for kindergarden?
Hello! I have a 4 year old son, that I have just started to homeschool. I was homeschooled myself, but the curriculums have changed over the years. I need something for an active all boy! I was going to go with abecka but, some have told me it is rather time consuming and alot of sit down work. I was thinking of Rod and Stafff as I want something biblical based. Anyone have books or sugestions plese contact me.
I agree that ABeka is time consuming and a lot of sit down work. You could just put together your own curriculum and make it fun. Just focus on the basics since he is so young right now. You can go for nature walks, cook together, play board games, go to the library and check out books and dvds, etc. Here are some links for sites and things I like for preschool age:

You can buy nice workbooks at the dollar store. For such a young age, I would not spend a lot of money. There are lots of free resources online. You might also want to check Pinterest. Just search "Preschool" and you will find an endless amount of ideas.

I'm currently home schooling a kindergartener and since it's my first time I thought I'd get something with a little structure since I'm horrible at organization and time management. I got the Memoria Press kindergarten set and on the whole have been very happy with it. With the exception of the math which happens to be Rod and Staff. I'm sure lots of people love it but my daughter and I just both found it incredibly dull and always found ourselves doing other things for math, so I finally dumped it for Saxon and we're happier.
But the reading and writing stuff is working very well for us and I love the science, poetry, art, and music that go along with it. We didn't buy any of the extras, only got the basic kit. I like having the daily checklist of things to do and even at that we skip around quite a bit. I have to say it was a little high, I think $260, but I'm finding it was worth it. (I just need to see if they'll take back the Rod and Staff math because for kindergarten you only get the part 1 out of 2 workbooks, so because it's not a "complete set" I'm having a hard time selling it myself. Will see if they'll take it back.)

I used Sing Spell Read & Write with my son when he was in K (5 yrs old)& my daughter (3@ the time) learned to read just sitting in on some of his lessons or simply just playing near by. He's an excellent reader & speller! My daughter since then has needed very little formal instruction because she picked up on so much. It is so easy. The only thing I would have done differently was give him less of their writing assignments. But overall, wonderful & easy. Great for the wiggly boys~lots of singing & games.
