...but long time public educator.
Yes, I am defecting from "the system." It just doesn't fit my girls' learning styles or temperaments. Plus there's so much more they want to explore than is "allowed" in school.
My girls are 7 year old identical twins that will begin 2nd grade next fall. My hubby and I (mostly me) are trying to decide what style of home education we will embark on and know it will be a journey with some twists and turns along the way. We'd like to make it much more led by our daughters' interests while making sure the basic skills, problem solving and critical thinking are all covered using topics they choose.
I've been working in public education since the mid 90s, and mainly with charter schools since about 2001.
Looking forward to "meeting" everyone online. And if you are in the Metro Atlanta area (GA) or even in the Asheville (NC) area (my sister is there), we'd love to meet up with you IRL! _________________ Kat

Hi,
I also began homeschooling my oldest son at the beginning of his 2nd grade year and he is now graduating on June 2nd. I have loved every minute of it.
It sounds like you have a great plan for homeschooling, as far as allowing your daughters to follow their interests but also covering basic skills.
