Pennsylvania Homeschool Law

Postby memmerrill » Fri Feb 16, 2007 6:48 pm

Hello! :D

I've been browsing the HSLDA website. On the page for PA Homeschool Laws, it states that the compulsory school age is: from time the child enters school, "which shall not be later than the age of eight ( 8 ) years, until the age of seventeen ( 17 ) years"

Should I take this to mean that if I never enroll my child in the public school system, I do not have to file an affidavit with the local superintendent until my child is 8 years old? Or at least until she reaches the grade level in which she will turn 8?

Yes. If your child is not enrolled in a public or private school before age 8, you don't have to file until age 8.

I chatted with a Calvert rep yesterday on their website & they said interpretation of whether or not Calvert is a private school for legal purposes is left up to the state.
