how long can a child be out of public school before i get that card from my local state agency saying i am allowed to homeschool?

bomb went off at school today at our local elem. school, and hubby does not want our children to go back !

It really depends on what state you live in. . . Each state has different laws regarding homeschooling. www.hslda.org might be a good place to look!

Maybe you'd get better help contacting a hs group in NC? (I live in Illinois). Here's one: http://www.cheagd.org listed in hslda list for Durham County, NC.

You don't need to wait for anything from DPNE, or from your local school district/board/whatnot. If you have sent in your notification, you are good to go.

You are not asking permission to homeschool your dc. You are notifying the state that you're going to do so. NC is not an approval state.
