Using McGuffey Readers, Ray's Arithmetic, etc.

Postby wendi.t.momof4 » Sun Jul 23, 2006 8:32 pm

:D My first year hs my own children and I have four. I'll definitely being using McGuffey Readers and Ray's Arithmetic. I just love the textbooks that were used when people in our country could actually read, write, and do math well! Anyone used these? Your thoughts, suggestions? I'm certified to teach but I KNOW I can learn a LOT from you experienced home schoolers out there. Thanks!

Wendi,

We used the McGuffey readers for our four children. However, I used them as a supplement because many of the words were difficult for young children to read - even with phonics. You may want to use another curriculum with phonics as your main reading program and use McGuffey as additional reading material. Perhaps you could read them outloud together. Great stories and character building content!
