homeschoolers in Heliopolis,Cairo
Want to hear from any homeschoolers in Heliopolis! I am an American who has been homeschooling two boys in the US(NYC) for the past three years. My husband is from Egypt and we are spending more and more time in Heliopolis. We love Egypt and are thinking about spending one or two years here. My greatest wish is for the boys(and myself) to become fluent in Arabic, as we speak very little at this time. My childen are 8 & 9 yrs. Any and all responses are greatly appreciated! Thanks, Margaret

I am from Egypt. Basicly, the homeschooling system is not found in Egypt. You should arrange with a certain school. Please visit these links:

From http://www.arabesq.com/cgi-bin/dcforum/dcextra.cgi?az=printer_format&om=6&forum=International:
...What I found basically boils down to this: If you are an expat, they don't really care what you do (The Egyptian Government that is). There are online and distance education courses available which result in an American High School diploma...
So there may be no homeschooling system, but that doesn't matter because nobody really cares about your schooling status. Muhammad is probably correct that you should take a class in Arabic, however, since any foreign language is easier to learn if you have access to teachers who speak it.

There are a lot of homeschoolers in Egypt. We have just started a yahoo group trying to get everybody together. Have a look.

the more we get on board the more productive it will be! InshaAllah see you in Egypt.
